This 28 hour course will review and advance the theory and practical application of MDT in relation to the Cervical & Thoracic spine, and introduce the concept of MDT in the management of upper limb musculoskeletal disorders.
The course will firstly help participants expand their ability to assess, classify and manage patients with cervical and thoracic problems, related referred pain and functional limitations.
Secondly, the theory and practical application of MDT for upper limb musculoskeletal disorders is presented. Lectures, patient assessments and practical sessions are utilised to demonstrate the characteristics and management of the MDT syndromes and OTHER subgroups, as they present in the upper limb.
Problem solving, reflective learning, clinical reasoning, practical activities and patient demonstrations are utilised to ensure participants gain a broader knowledge of MDT within the biopsychosocial framework.
Participants will have the opportunity to discuss and extensively practice the MDT assessment, classification and management process, including the application of both self-treatment and clinician procedures.
Patient demonstrations are used to illustrate the reassessment process and allow participants to get a realistic impression of the impact of the MDT system on different patient presentations over 2-3 treatment sessions.
The course includes an illustrated manual and reference list. Participants will also have access to videos of all procedures, the full reference list on the MII website.

Part A: The Lumbar Spine;
Part B: The Cervical and Thoracic Spine; and
Part C: Advanced Lumbar Spine & Extremities – Lower Limb
During the practical sessions, participants are requested to wear suitable clothing, allowing easy access to the cervical and thoracic spine.
As this is a practical course that may involve performance of exercise and manual therapy procedures on other participants, attendees are required to have suitable professional liability insurance.
